Welcome Students and Staff of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For those of you eligible to take advanced Divination, and those who have passed the entrance exam, I welcome you and warn you that this class will not be easy. Should you feel, at any time, this course is not for you I will have you transferred into another of my courses, your grades and credits will follow. This course is based upon Necromancy, which is the art of conjuring the dead for divination. It dates back to Persia, Greece and Rome, and in the Middle Ages was widely practiced by magicians, sorcerers, and witches.

Necromancy is not to be confused with conjuring devils or demons for any purpose. Necromancy is the seeking of the spirits of the dead. The spirits are looked for because they, being without physical bodies, are no longer limited to our plane of existance. Therefore, it is though these spirits we have access to information from the past and future which is not available to the living. It has been used to help find sunken or buried treasure, and whether or not a person was murdered or died from other causes.

In this course you shall learn exactly how to use divination through these spirits. Do not take this course lightly, the knowledge you attain here could be used for many dark and dangerous things and I stress the caution you must use not only in our school, but also in the course of your life itself
